Tamil cinema recently welcomed the big screen debut of versatile actor Vijay Sethupathi‘s son, Surya Sethupathi, through his film Phoenix, which hit the screens on 4th July 2025. As the film continues the spree at the theatres, Surya has already made a mark — not just through his acting, though, but through his humble demeanor as well, courtesy the teachings of his dad.
In a Phoenix Success meet, the young actor discussed the two significant pieces of advice his dad had given him when he first came up against the camera. His first related to how to handle the stress of being a star kid in an all-judgy industry.
“My father said just two things,” Surya shared. “One was, being a nepo kid, one should have the capability to handle negative things.”
It’s a healthy acknowledgment of what young stars are facing, especially the celebrity-named ones. Where others might shun the topic, Surya embraced it as a badge of honor, which may reflect that he acknowledges the burden of fame that comes with celebrity.
The remaining advice provided by Vijay Sethupathi related to work ethic and professionalism, which best defines the veteran actor’s own film career.
“You should be responsible for your job,” Surya added. “This is not just a one-man job. It’s teamwork. Believe in the process and give 100 per cent — no matter what the job is.”
Phoenix Still Running in Theatres
With Phoenix currently playing in cinemas, early reactions have praised Surya for his natural screen presence and sincere performance. The film marks a promising start to what fans hope will be a long, successful journey in Kollywood.
